When we planned this summer’s trip, we toyed with the idea of traveling all the way across the country, from Virginia to Oregon. That seemed “too far” so we settled on a turnaround point in Idaho. We were especially pumped about visiting hot springs.
Since our 40th wedding anniversary would fall in early August, I found a resort in Hailey, Idaho and made reservations. We had a plan!
But you know what they say about plans.
Once we hit Montana the temperatures skyrocketed so we headed north to Canada. There we encountered wildfire smoke, so we turned around. We ended up spending our wedding anniversary in Bemidji, Minnesota, though we kept the festivities going for a solid week.
We never did make it to Idaho!
Here’s the route (as generated by RV Life Trip Wizard):
We covered more than 7500 miles in 12 weeks.
Here’s the breakdown of where we spent the 85 nights:
16 Private Campgrounds (incl KOA)
13 Harvest Hosts
11 State Parks
10 Friend’s Driveways/Homes
8 National Forest/Boondocking
7 Parking Lots/Streets (incl 1 Walmart and 1 casino)
6 National Parks
6 Resort (nice)
4 Hotel (medium)
2 Motel (crappy)
2 Municipal Parks
What kind of statistics, if any, do you track when you travel?
What would you like to know about this trip?
I love your spontaneity!
